On day 2, the weather started out cloudy and cold so we went to Newport to go through the lighthouse and science center. First we stopped to get tickets to tour the lighthouse, they only do 3 tours a day with 16 people so we were lucky to get 4 tickets.. After we got the tickets, which were free with Liam's national park pass, we went to the Hatfield Science Center. It is put together by Oregon State University and is really cool. All the displays were built by students and there were lots of hands on activities.
They had a touch pool. Liam was really nervous about touching things, but we finally convinced him to touch some animals and he thought it was pretty cool.We then went to lunch. Liam had to bring the penguin he bought at the science center, and he got a shark with his kids meal.
Then we headed to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. They have a really cool interpretive center that was really fun to look around. Then we walked to the lighthouse for our tour. The day had cleared and it was beautiful. This is the view from the lighthouse.
The lighthouse in the background.
All the stairs we had to climb to get to the top.
After the tour we walked down to the beach. So pretty.
Liam and Nancy played Yahtzee every night and Liam won the majority of the games.
The next day we went to a garden, then to lunch at the local casino. It was delicious. There was an arcade at the casino so we took Liam there. He loved it and has been begging for us to take him to one at home.
We also went to a museum about the area. Super fun. They had a kids room with stuffed animals and things to play with. Liam really liked this porcupine.
The area used to have a festival every year called the redhead roundup, so being a redhead I thought that was pretty cool.
We also went to the beach and Liam chased seagulls.
They have a nature conservancy area so we took a little hike. It was really pretty and there were lots of flowers in bloom.
The last day we kind of just took it easy. We spent quite a bit of time at the beach collecting rocks.
It was a really fun trip, but we were really glad to get home. It was a long drive and we really missed Kyle.
