A couple of weekend's ago we decided to pull the kids out of school on Friday and head south for the weekend. Kyle had just spent a lot of time out of town, and we needed some family time. We first went to Zion National Park. We used Sophie's 4th grade pass and got in free. It was really busy, so we didn't even go into the main part of the park. We hiked the overlook just past the tunnel, and then did what we call the bathtubs.
The kids could have spent all day climbing on the rocks at the overlook.
The bathtubs is an unmarked trail, so there wasn't anyone else there. We just went to the waterfall, the kids had fun just playing in the water.
They were trying to show of their muscles.
On Saturday we drove into Nevada and went to Valley of Fire State Park. This was the kids first time and they loved it. It was a little cold and rainy, but it was still a lot of fun.
There are these stone cabins that were built in the 30's so people would have a place to sleep when they were passing through.
The mud hardened into this neat design after the rain.
We again went on an unmarked trail and we turned around at this rock. The kids had fun jumping off of it and into the sand.
On the hike there was this small slot canyon. It wasn't very long or high, you could climb up and around it, but it was still cool.
There were lots of places to explore and rocks to climb.
Sunday morning the kids begged to go into Snow Canyon to play at the Sand Dunes. It was a little cold and sprinkled a bit, but that didn't stop the kids from having fun. There were some other kids there and they played and dug pits with them.
It was a fun, but quick trip. I think it revived us a bit so that we can now make it to summer. Every once it a while you just have to take a quick trip somewhere to spend time together.
