August was a pretty busy month for us. We tried to get in as much fun as possible before school started.
One weekend we headed up to Bear Lake for the Lake Town rodeo. Kyle and my dad were already up there working, so the kids and I drove up for a night. None of us had ever been to a rodeo, so we weren't sure what to expect. It turned out to be a ton of fun. The kids all want to go again next year.
The next morning I took the kids hiking in Logan Canyon. We did a small nature trail that had signs along the way. Everyone loved it. Maya liked reading the signs and the other kids climbed on rocks and trees.
Another week Kyle took the day off and we headed to the Uinta's to do some hiking. On our longer hike to Ruth lake, we got caught in a storm. It rained, hailed, and even snowed a little. The kids were troopers and kept hiking, even though they weren't super happy.
The kids loved playing on all the rocks.
We stopped at the Provo River falls.
We had lunch at Ruth's Lake.
We hiked above the lake and played in a huge boulder field. The kids pretended they were dragons.
We also went to a JDRF picnic. It was really nice to be with other families who deal with Type One Diabetes. We talked, and the kids played in the park.
In August we also went out to Promontory Point. We had never been there so we decided to get one more use out of Sophie's 4th grade park pass. It turned out to be a lot of fun. We saw the trains come in and watched the reenactment. Defiantly worth the drive.
Since we were so close, we decided to check out the spiral jetty at the Great Salt Lake. It was ok, but was not as spectacular as it once was.
We also went to the Thyocol rocket garden. Thyocol make rockets and missiles and such, and they display some in front of the factory. It was really cool.
At the end of August school started. Maya 7th grade, Sophie 5th, Ellie 2nd, and Liam kindergarten.
Sophie with her best friend Maggie. They have been friends since 1st grade.
Liam loves kindergarten. It was hard to let him go, he's my baby and I have to trust someone else to take care of is diabetes, but the school has done a great job. The nice thing is that since I have no kids at home in the mornings I get to help in the kids classes quite a bit.
We also did one more week of swim lessons, which the kids loved. Hopefully next year we can get them all swimming well.
