Weekend getaway

A couple of weeks ago Kyle and I decided last minute to head to Mesquite for the weekend.  We drove down Friday morning and came home Sunday afternoon.  Fortunately my parents were able to watch the kids.  It worked out really well for Maya because she ended up bringing her robotics team's robot home and was able to work all weekend without interruption.  She stayed home with the robot while the other kids stayed at my parents.
On our way to Mesquite we stopped in St. George so Kyle could golf.  I just rode in the cart and read.  It was really nice to be outside in good weather.
On Saturday we went to Valley of Fire State Park.  We had been before, but this was our first time in good weather.  Our first hike was to the Fire Wave.  It was our longest hike and 1.5 miles round trip.  There were a lot of people, but we were still able to social distance so it wasn't too bad.

The next hike was the White Dome Loop.  This was my favorite hike and was only 1.25 miles round trip.  There was this old movie set from the 1950s.
It also had a short slot canyon.

Our final hike was to the Mouse Tanks.  This was really short at only 0.75 miles, but there was petroglyphs and lots of places to climb around on the rocks.
I found this perfect place to lay down.  It was surprisingly comfortable.

We had a great time and enjoyed a much needed weekend away.
Here is a picture of Jimi lounging in the sun.
Last week Sophie had to take care of a robot baby for 2 days.  She did a great job and learned what hard work babies are.  We are glad she only had it for 2 days because we were tired of the crying by the time she was done.
Yesterday was ACT day at the high school.  Juniors take the ACT, which the school pays for, and everyone else gets the day of.  I enjoyed spending the morning with Sophie and when Maya was done with the test Kyle and I took them to lunch.  Maya left for school before Sophie even woke up but they ended up dressing exactly alike.  They both wore a black shirt, black pants and their robotics sweatshirts.
