Friday, October 4 we took a train into Cologne from Aachen. Cologne has a huge cathedral that took 500 years to build. For 300 of those years the cathedral sat unfinished because they ran out of money. It is of Gothic design and not as pretty inside as the Aachen Cathedral. It is the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe and has the second-tallest spires in the world at 515 feet. It was hard getting a picture of the entire cathedral from close up because it is so tall.

It was raining and so there were a lot of people inside the cathedral.

The kids were tired of seeing historical things like cathedrals and such, so we took them to the Cologne Zoo. We had to take pictures of the flamingos so that we could show Sophia when we got home.
We took the train back to Aachen that afternoon. We didn't see much of Cologne but the kids sure enjoyed the zoo.
