Germany Day 9

Saturday, October 5 we had a lazy day and hung around Aachen. We went to a hill just outside of town to see a statue of the devil and the farmer's wife. The story behind the statue is as follows:
The devil was angry that the Aachen Cathedral had been built and so he was going to dump a huge bag of sand on the town to bury it. As he was walking toward Aachen he came upon a farmer's wife. He asked her how far Aachen was. She was wearing very worn-out shoes and she told the devil that she had bought these shoes new in Aachen and that they had worn out from such a long walk. The devil became frustrated and so he decided to dump the bag of sand where he was instead of on the town. The claim is that the hill just outside the city limits is from his big bag of sand.
More pictures of downtown Aachen and the cathedral.
Maya was all smiles in Aachen. She loved spending time with her cousins Timmy and Aaron.

We also got to hang out a little bit with the missionaries. They had a street display and they made contact with many people who were walking downtown. We went back to Scott and Katie's place and finished packing. We drove to Dusseldorf later that afternoon. We dropped Janice and Maya off at the hotel and Robby and I drove the rental car to the airport. We caught a taxi back to the hotel and had dinner. We spent a restless night with Maya sleeping between us. We caught a flight home the following morning. Special thanks to Scott and Katie for allowing us to stay at their place and for showing us everything. Special thanks to Grandma Vocana for taking care of Sophia, Ellie, and Liam while we were gone. They were in good hands.
