We left Rothenburg very early on Sunday, September 29 so that we could catch the train at Koblenz. It was looking bleak for a while, but we did make it to the train on time. We took the train to Bingen and then got on a boat to cruise up the Rhein River.

We got off the boat in St. Goar. We climbed to the top of the hill and toured the ruined castle called Rheinfels. This was the biggest castle on the Rhein, built in 1245 but destroyed by the French in 1797. There were many fun things to explore, including archways and tunnels that required the use of headlamps in order to see.
