Maine Day 4

 Monday June 8 was our last day on Mount Desert Island.  We woke up, checked out of our motel and went on a puffin and lighthouse boat tour.  It was really nice.  The weather was perfect and we enjoyed the cool air on the water.  We saw 3 lighthouses, seals, and lots of birds.

This is Egg Island Lighthouse.  It is called  Egg Island because one year they collected thousands of eggs on the island.  This is also wear a lot of seals live and we got to see several.

This is Petite Manan Lighthouse.  This is the island where the puffins live.  I wasn't able to get any pictures of the puffins, and we did see quite a few.  The island and the birds are protected to large boats can't get very close.

This is a bad picture, but all the black dots on the water are puffins.

We also saw several Eagles. The rocks on the bottom of the pictures has an eagle on it eating a smaller bird it had caught.

The oldest bookstore in Maine.  My finger got in it because I couldn't see my phone screen because of the glare from the sun and I was trying to get a shot without people in it.

There is another eagle in the dead tree in the picture.

This was the Winter Harbor Lighthouse.  On this island there is no fresh water, but at low tide you can walk to a nearby island that has a spring so when the light house was taken care of by a family they would have to walk to the other island at low tide to get water.  You can also see Cadillac Mountain in the background.

An Osprey nest.  There is a mama and 2 babies in the nest.

After the tour we left the island and headed back to the Portland area.  This time we stayed on highway 1 which follows the coast.  This is a really cool bridge we crossed.  I didn't get a good picture because we weren't expecting the bridge.

In Freeport we stopped at the LL Bean flagship store.  It is huge.  There are 4 different giant buildings.

Along the coast we stopped in Camden.  Our neighbor Todd Andrizzi served his mission in the Maine/New Hampshire/Vermont area and his favorite town was Camden.  It is a cute touristy town with a cute harbor.

In the same area as LL Bean is a Lindt chocolate store and we had to go in.  We bought more than this but wish we had bought even more.  In the United States only Maine and New Hampshire have a Lindt Store.  These chocolates were all produced in the Aachen, Germany factory (interesting fact for the Scott family).

There was a lot of driving this day but the boat tour was one of my favorite things we did on the trip.
