Maine Day 5 (last day)

Tuesday June 8 was our last day in Maine.  We didn't have a full day, we flew home in the afternoon, but we made the most of the morning.  we went out to Cape Elizabeth to see one last lighthouse.  The lighthouse is privately owned and a family lives in it so you can't get any closer than this.

We had to try a whoopie pie.  They were delicous.
We also went to bug light in South Portland.  It is a really cute little lighthouse.  It used to sit on a man made jetty but they filled in around the lighthouse to create a really nice park.  There is also a memorial to all the ships and ship builders that came out of Maine (mostly South Portland) during WWII.  I knew a lot of ships were built, but it was still surprising to see all the ships listed.

It is a beautiful lighthouse with Greco-Roman inspired details.  Along the path up to the lighthouse are blocks in memorium of different people. It was really cool to read them all.
In the afternoon we flew home.  It was a wonderful trip but it was really good to come home and hug our kids again.
